SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A big St. Patrick's Day street party in Sacramento was raising money Wednesday for the Firefighters Burn Institute. L Street was expected to remain shut down between 15th and 16th streets until about 2 a.m. Thursday.
Firefighter Matt Cole said food sales at the party will bring in cash for a widows and orphans fund and the burn unit at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.
Food being sold has been donated by de Vere's Irish Pub, located at the center of the celebration.
"The de Vere family's been fantastic," Cole said.
Chicken, bratwurst and veggie burgers are on the menu.
Doors at de Vere's opened at 8 a.m. Wednesday for those looking to get a jump on the celebration. The block party started at 10 a.m. Admission for the block party is $25.
Meanwhile, local police urged partiers to have a designated driver. Officers planned to be on the lookout for drunken drivers. Read more: http://www.kcra.com/news/22863463/detail.html#ixzz1NZyJSqWw
