St. Baldrick's Day 2014

St. Baldrick's Day is coming!

How much money would it take to shave your head? What if all that money went to making a difference in the lives of children battling cancer? That’s what St. Baldrick’s Day is all about—going bald for a good cause.

Every year, we gather the community for a one-day event that brings together teams of people willing to shave their heads bald as a sign of solidarity with children who are fighting cancer. All participants, which include local businesses, schools, politicians, de Vere’s patrons, and even plenty of women, raise money in support of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, then congregate at de Vere’s Irish Pub (Midtown Sacramento and Davis) to shave their heads. And yes, we’re talkin’ buzzed bald!

To sign up or donate, go to www.getbald.com.

Davis St. Baldrick's Day: March 8, 2:30-5pm

Sacramento St. Baldrick's Day: March 10, 5:30-8:30pm

Celebrate the New Year TWICE!

We love parties (and Ireland) so much, we always celebrate the New Year TWICE--once on Dublin time (4pm PST) and again on local time (12am PST)! We've been doing this double celebration since we opened, first because it's just a great excuse to toast the ones we love and second, to give our pub family options. If you have children, want to avoid crazy New Year's Eve crowds, and/or prefer to be in bed at midnight, we invite you to join us for the Dublin toast at 4pm. If you want to get dressed up and hit the town at night, join us for our midnight countdown!

We will be offering complimentary champagne or whiskey toasts for BOTH celebrations!

Did we mention there is NO COVER all day/night?

We'll be raising our glasses to our wonderful patrons and cheers-ing to a healthy, prosperous and very happy New Year!

The Irish Coffee Challenge!

The Irish Coffee Challenge

The Irish Coffee Challenge is not just for anyone–it’s for those who take coffee, whiskey, and road trips seriously. de Vere’s Irish Pub challenges you to compare their Almost Famous Irish Coffees to the world famous Irish Coffees at The Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco–and tell us which one you like best!

Why? Our regulars often comment on how incredible our Irish Coffees are and almost always reference the Buena Vista’s in the same sentence.  So we created this experience to allow people to vote on their favorite Irish coffee.  The challenge is simple, and requires a small journey, but will lead to the discovery of the best Irish Coffee.

You’ll need to order Irish Coffees at both establishments, take pictures of your challenge experience, and secure a sober driver. Are you up for the challenge?

Take the Irish Coffee Challenge!

Go to irishcoffeechallenge.com to see how YOU can be a part of the quest for the best Irish Coffee!

Delicate lightly toasted malt flavors underscore noble German hop character. Hallertau-grown Magnum hops deliver the lupilin foundation while generous amounts of Spalter Select hops bring floral aromatic and spicy herbal notes. As a twist on the traditional Pils, they dry hop with German Saphir for a touch of bergamot zest and lemon grass. A refreshing, light bodied and hop driven Pils.

-Firestone Walker Double Jack Imperial IPA, 9.5%: The brewery's first Imperial IPA, it features a big malty middle to cloak the high alcohol and mouth puckering hop bitterness. Huge tangerine, grapefruit and juicy fruit aroma blossom over the herbal blue basil and malt earthiness of this aggressive beer.

-Firestone Walker Wookey Jack - Black Rye IPA, 8.3%: Rich dark malts and spicy rye careen into bold citrus laden hops creating a new dimension in IPA flavor. This brew has been left unfiltered and unfined to retain all of its texture and character. At 80IBU's, Wookey Jack is gnarly on the outside yet complex and refined on the inside.

Black as night, this high-gravity, malty brew offers intense but well-balanced flavors and aroma, with hints of dark chocolate and roasted coffee.

Next Up...

-Drakes Barrel Aged Drakonic, 8.75%: Their monster Drakonic Imperial Stout was sent to mellow in a variety of their bourbon barrels back in 2009.  There it took in flavors of vanilla, oak, smoke, and hints of fruit into its smooth darkness.  This is a blend from several of those barrels with notes of chocolate, bourbon and subtle hints of dark, rich fruit.

-Allagash Black Belgian Stout, 7.5%: Allagash Black is a Belgian style stout. The silky mouth feel is a great balance to the roasted character, coffee and dark chocolate notes expressed throughout this beer.

-Troubadour Obscura Stout, 8.2%: Troubadour Obscura is a dark red-brown colored beer, with a rich, malty body combined with different touches of a stout but in a very nice balanced way: roast, chocolate, coffee, vanilla. A mild stout with a Belgian body.

-Lagunitas Imperial Stout, 9.9%: Made with Highly roasted malted barley, and plenty of it, to give the beer an uncommon richness and smoky, roasty depth. Just the way the 18th century Russian royalty liked it.

Celebrate New Year's Eve (TWICE!) at de Vere's Irish Pub!

Every year at the pub, we like to celebrate the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve, twice: once at 4pm PST (12am in Dublin) and again at 12am our time. That way, everyone has a chance to raise a glass of bubbly or a shot of whiskey to celebrate the new year. If you want to avoid the crazy crowds at night, prefer to be in bed at midnight, or have kids to keep company, join us at 4pm for a toast to Dublin. If you want the real deal, come party with us at night! For both toasts, we will be handing out champagne and whiskey to all who'd like to partake.

We will also be doing a special Prime Rib dinner on the 31st. More details to come!

Remember: no one celebrates New Years like the Irish!
